FRONT ROW & MERLOT

“I think the idea of mixing luxury and mass-market fashion is very modern – wearing head-to-toe designer has become a bit passé. It’s a new era in fashion – there are no rules. It’s all about the individual and personal style, wearing high-end, low-end, classic labels, and up-and-coming designers all together.”

-Alexander McQueen

Tuesday night at two of my friends charity event at Steak Restaurant! The profits were donated to three different charities, Habitat for Humanity, Ride for Dad, and Ottawa’s Children’s Breakfast Club. We were all there to wish our friends good luck on their upcoming adventure to summit Mount Kilimanjaro! Photos taken with model: Matt Carson and NHL Ottawa Senators Marc Methot (should I mention he was rated one of the hottest NHL players by Cosmopolitan?)

Who: Emily Ratajkowski

What: Model

Where: London, Englad

Emily Ratajkowski a.k.a. that model in the “Blurred Lines” music video who’s body we all wish we had along with her soaring confidence in herself. Since her controversial topless debut Ratajkowski can be seen in many advertisements and magazines. What I like about her is that she’s breaking the boundaries in the modelling industry. She is becoming such a successful and publicized model standing only 5’7 with a C cup. Not going to lie, I somewhat idolize the girl. Yes, her body is phenomenal, but I love that she has gone after what she wanted, whether or not her manager thought doing the video was a good idea - it’s what jump-started her career! Where would she be right now if she hadn’t done so? Would people be able to spot her in a crowd if she hadn’t? I think not. Feminists can say that the video is objectifying and portrays her as a “topless sex doll”, but is that really the first music video where the artists portray women as a means of amusement? To serve fantasies? No. This world has many more problems than that, such as Miley Cyrus’ possible tetanus poisoning and bodysuit purchasing.

As I was checking out the new trends and items on ShopBop I came across this amazing felt panama hat. I HAD to have it! Unfortunately I had gotten there too late as it was sold out. So I found myself on Jenassa Leone’s website sifting through these fashionable women’s hats and developed a major crush. Specifically on Vera (first image). Personally, I never thought of myself as a “hat person” but Leone’s hats may have swayed me into the “casual Californian” fall trend - my credit card could confirm.

Pull out your furs (or faux’s) because fall is just around the corner. How to survive this years fall? Wool hats, fur pelts, embellished black dresses, and leather jackets. I love this season!

Boyfriend is the Trend

Now that summer’s ending, people tend up couple up - and I don’t blame them! You might get some great closet staples out of it, such as a good pair of “boyfriend” jeans. Paired with a plain tee, blazer, and a pair of ankle strap sandal heels you’ve got yourself maybe one of the most comfortable outfits, you’ll be happy you settled down!

Trend Watch: Sheer

Need a sexy update to classic black? Sheer does just that. It exposes so much yet so little at the same time. It’s tantalizing to look at, and it’s so easy to wear. The trick is to pair sheer with black separates of a different texture (say, leather), and to accessorise!

Spring style doesn’t get any sexier than this.

stay cool, stay sheer
